Community Service ‘Bagan Wisata’ at Pelabuhan Ratu Sukabumi Bay

Bandung, SOC – Bagan is one of the fishing gear used by fishermen. The principle used is to lure fish into gathering under the bagan with the help of light at night to then be caught using a net. This method of fishing is widely seen in Pelabuhan Ratu Sukabumi.

A glance at how to catch fish like this looks profitable with a large amount of fish netted and no need for fuel for boats. However, the number of charts in the Pelabuhan Ratu is feared to cause long-term losses. The loss is in the form of damage to the marine ecosystem.

Currently, the number of fish caught by fishermen has decreased from year to year. This is presumably due to the fewer number of fish in the sea due to a large number of small-sized fish that are also netted.

This is a motivation for the lecturers of the School of Computing, Telkom University, which consists of Jondri, Irma Palupi, and Dr. Deni Saepudin to be able to help the fishermen at Pelabuhan Ratu Sukabumi. They are moved to reduce the environmental impact by not reducing the economic value that can be obtained by fishermen.

“Pelabuhan Ratu is one of the tourist attractions on the southern coast of Java. So far, beach tourism such as banana boating, whitewater rafting, and bodyboard are some of the activities that are often enjoyed by tourists, “said Jondri.
“By modifying the ‘Bagan’ of the fishermen, we want to offer other alternatives to tourists to enjoy the charm of Pelabuhan Ratu,” he continued.

This ‘Bagan’ will later be equipped with ‘Rumpon.’ ‘Rumpon’ is a structure built in water that serves as a shelter for small fish. With the presence of these small fish, they will attract larger predatory fish to get closer.
“The ‘Rumpon’ to be constructed consist of surface and basic. The Surface will be built using coconut leaf midribs, which are weighted. While basic one will be made using a more sturdy structure such as concrete or pipe filled with cement, “continued Jondri.

Tourists can later lure big fish that approach the ‘Rumpon’ with fishing rods or spearguns. In the future, this activity will continue to make ‘Karamba’ which serves as a place to maintain fish and lobsters.

Activities that are part of community service are in collaboration with the Green Circle Community Non-Governmental Organization. Non-Governmental Organizations The Green Circle Community is a community group that cares about the environment in Pelabuhan Ratu. _ELN
