SIDE RESEARCH GROUP PROFILE

Software Engineering, Information System and Data Engineering (SIDE) Is a research group that concentrates in the field of software development, information systems, and data engineering techniques. Software development department covers all aspects of software production, not only related to technical issues of software development but also strategic activities such as software project management, determination of methods and development processes, and theoretical aspects, all of which support the production of software. By definition, the software is not only for computer programs, but also includes documentation and configuration of the related data needed to make the program operate correctly. The Information Systems field covers strategic, managerial, and operational activities involved in collecting, processing, storing, distributing, and using information, as well as the technology involved, in communities and organizations. In this case, Information Systems focuses on the integration of information technology solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of businesses and enterprises, supporting the achievement of targets effectively and efficiently. Data Engineering generally includes a discussion of how to use the data as best as possible. This can be made possible by applying various techniques to store, process, and access data so that users can obtain useful information and knowledge. Therefore, engineering data is often also associated with information and knowledge engineering and information systems.

Research Department

The SIDE Research Group oversees 4 Research Labs, including Software Engineering Lab, Database Lab, Data Mining Lab, and E-Learning Lab.

1. SOFTWARE ENGINEERING RESEARCH LAB Software Engineering Research Laboratory is a laboratory that is under the Group of Software and Data Engineering Skills. The Software Engineering Lab acts as an informatics research laboratory whose research studies include the design, manufacture, and development of software from basic to advanced levels. Vision Being a superior informatics engineering laboratory that can produce students who are competent in the field of software engineering as well as a center of learning. Mission

2. DATA MINING RESEARCH LAB Laboratory Data Mining Center is a laboratory under the Department of Information. The DMC Lab is a lab that focuses on research on Data Mining and helps to lecture Data Mining at the Telkom Institute of Technology, such as managing major assignments. The DMC Lab also participates in the Indonesian Data Mining community and participates in national and international competitions. Research that has been produced:
   • Audio mining (speech classification)
   • Text mining (text categorization and summarization)
   • Riset Web Extraction
   • Association rules study
   • Clustering study
   • Churn prediction in the telecommunications world
3. DATA RESEARCH LAB The Database Research Laboratory is a laboratory that seeks to explore a more in-depth database of studies. This laboratory functions as a center of information about the database, both in the form of reading resources that relate to the Database and the Final Project which take the theme of the Database. The Database Research Laboratory has supporting facilities including 9 CPUs and 10 monitors where each PC is installed Oracle 8i for its database management. All computers are connected to the network and can access the internet online so that they can make it easier to get the latest information about the Database. Research that has been produced:
   • Implementation of Distributed Database, a case study of the Telkom Institute of Technology
   • Implementation of Data Warehouse, a case study of the Telkom Institute of Technology as a means of supporting academic decision making.

   • Design and implementation of fuzzy relational database
4. E-LEARNING RESEARCH LAB The e-learning laboratory is a lab established in 2007, with the help of PHKI funds. This laboratory researches in the field of e-learning development. Research that has been produced:
   • Development of a Web Site Department Template Framework with a case study of the Department of Informatics
   • Development of the Framework Learning Management System (leading to the Open Standard and Interoperable System)
   • Development of Final Project Business Process Administration Template Framework with a case study of the Department of Informatics
   • Study of e-Learning Government with a case study of the Telkom Institute of Technology

Community Service Department

So far, community service activities have been implemented in the form of Mega workshop RPLD activities (containing exhibitions and basic programming training for high school students).
