Women’s Empowerment Activities towards the Sustainable Food House Area by the Telkom School of Computing Community Service Team in Lengkong Village
Along with the reduction in open land in the village of Lengkong due to the housing development program, the Sustainable Food Houses Zone program has become challenging to implement. As one of the villages in Bandung Regency, Lengkong Village wants to realize the Sustainable Food House Area by starting to develop a demonstration zone for Sustainable Food Houses in one area, namely in RT/RW 03/07. It is hoped that the success of the Sustainable Food House Region area will be developed in other regions of the Lengkong village. The Sustainable Food House Region Program will target women who generally work as housewives who usually have more free time to be able to join the Sustainable Food House Area program.
The Telkom University academic community immediately captured the opportunity through Community Service activities. The Telkom University School of Computing Community Service Team led by a group of lecturers namely Ms. Sri Suryani, Mr. Yuliant Sibaroni, and Dyas Puspandari and assisted by some students immediately took action by conducting a series of activities which included:
- Dissemination of women’s empowerment programs, Sustainable Food House Area
- Training and Planning for managing women’s groups through social media
- Training on open land management and grants for vegetable growing media
This activity lasts for six months, from May to November 2018. This activity is strongly supported by the chief of RT/RW 03/07 Lengkong village Ms. Yeni Noberty by providing open land for these activities. Besides, this activity is also fully supported by members of the Creative Sustainable Food House area whose members are housewives in the RT. Social media besides being used as a medium of tutorial for members of the Sustainable Food House Area to facilitate the learning of new knowledge and means of communication for fellow members of the Sustainable Food House Zone, it is also used as a vegetable marketing media produced from these activities. The following are some documents of community service activities that have been carried out including socialization of programs and training in land management and Vegetable Planting.
With the existence of new insights about the use of open land and yards and the management of groups using social media facilities, as well as planting media grants from the community service activities of the Telkom University team, it is hoped that creative economic activities can be generated and can educate the surrounding community. Also, with the realization of the Sustainable Food House Area, it can support government programs in the field of food security. It is expected that after the implementation of this program, in the future RT / RW 03/07 will become a pilot area of the Sustainable Food House Region in Lengkong village with open land use through empowering housewives.
