The School of Computing on Sunday, March 17, 2019, has carried out community service activities with the title, “Use of the Internet to help product marketing and workshops on improving the design and function of home products on Cidahu, Purwakarta.” This activity took place following the plan for good cooperation with the workroom of TPQ Qurrota A’yun in Cidahu Village, Pasawahan District, Purwakarta Regency. Community service activities with themes such as this are the first time carried out by Telkom University in the Purwakarta district. The collaborative partner of TPQ Qurroa A’yun is a Quran educational institution owned by a married couple, Ade Kholik and mother Cucu Nurhikmah. In addition to conducting Quran education, they have also initiated the TPQ Qurrota A’yun Work Room, which moves parents to work together to form home-made knitted products. They have received several local orders, where the product models made are self-taught through blogs and youtube tutorials.
The community service program held on Sunday, March 17, 2019, generally provides 2 (two) training sessions, namely functional improvement and product design training, and training on how to improve marketing through social media (Instagram and Facebook community) and online shops such as Tokopedia. The event opened with prayer and remarks from TPQ Qurrota A’yun owners, Mr. Ade Kholik and representatives from Telkom University, namely Irma Palupi. After completing a general description of the content and technical training to be carried out on that day, the first session of training began. The first training was training designed to improve the design and function of knit products. The training was carried out by bringing the speaker of Rahmawati Yayu Ningsih, M.Ds, S.Ds, who is usually called Ibu Yayu, to teach how to make knitting techniques to make knitting objects that have volume, such as dolls. The trainees, all of whom were housewives, said they were happy because they were taught new knitting techniques for them.
Ms. Yayu, as the speaker felt that it was not too difficult to provide technical direction in training, because some of the trainees were familiar with the knitting technique. “Initially, when there was still a theory of knitting, they looked confused, and there were some of them who were like giving up because they felt troubled. But when it was technical, it turned out they were faster and more interested.”
The second training was training on utilizing social media and an online shop for product marketing. For the use of social media, participants were taught how to take advantage of buying and selling pages and communities on Facebook, and displaying product profiles on Instagram, creating product profile templates, how to get lots of followers on Instagram, how important hashtags are to post products easily found by other accounts. The PKM committee conducted the second session of the training from Telkom University, namely Aniq Atiqi Rohmawati, Annisa Aditsania, and Mr. Bambang Ary Wahyudi.
