The Faculty of Informatics Provides Computational Thinking Learning for High School Teachers
On Thursday, June 13, 2019, the School of Computing, Telkom University has carried out a Community Service activities entitled Learning Computational Thinking for Teachers of Basic and Secondary Education Levels at SMA Telkom Bandung.
Computational Thinking (CT) is a method of solving problems by applying computer science techniques. Computational Thinking is often considered similar to coding and computer science, but actually there are very significant differences among the three who deal with how to solve problems, design systems, and understand human behavior that refers to various fundamental concepts of computer science. Therefore, Computational Thinking is a fundamental skill for everyone, not only for computer scientists.
The purpose of this activity is so that the teachers of SMA Telkom Bandung can understand and implement the concept of Computational Thinking to their students on the subjects they are teaching. In addition, the teacher is also expected to be able to start making practice questions based on computational thinking. Furthermore, later the teachers can assist their students in participating in the Bebras Challenge which is held every November every year.
In the activities that have been carried out, the team from the School of Computing, Telkom University conveyed the introduction to the benefit of Computational Thinking for teachers and students. And then the team guided the teachers to take part in a simple activity to solve CT cases. In the third session, the team from SoC together with the teachers designed a Lesson Plan to deliver subjects in activities that contained elements of Computational Thinking.
This activity received a positive response from the teachers and principals of SMA Telkom. Further action to this Community Service is to provide assistance to teachers and students to be able to qualify for the 2019 Bebras competition.
