The Faculty of Informatics Has Successfully Organized the International Conference on Data and Information Science (ICoDIS) 2017
International Conference on Data and Information Science (ICoDIS) 2017 is an international-scale scientific activity organized by the School of Computing, Telkom University. This conference is an international meeting place between academics and researchers in the field of Data Science. Chairperson of the committee, Prof. Dr. Adiwijaya said that today, Data Science is becoming a technology trend that is in high demand because of the massive growth of data in the era of mobile devices as it currently requires the right data processing solutions. ICoDIS 2017 was held on 5-6 December 2017 at the Telkom University Auditorium by presenting 6 key speakers who were competent in their fields, Prof. Dr. Toru Ishida from Kyoto University, Prof. Dr. Naomie Salim and A.P Dr. Norma Binti Alias from the University of Technology Malaysia, Dr. Luepol Pipanmaekaporn from King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Dr. Eng. Khoirul Anwar and Dr. Moch Arif Bijaksana from Telkom University.
The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Toru Ishida from Kyoto University, explained about The Language Grid for Supporting Intercultural Collaboration. In his presentation, Prof. Toru proposes the concept of intercultural collaboration where participants from diverse cultures and languages together contribute to achieving a global goal. Because this intercultural collaboration is carried out for data that is quite rare, parallel experiments in the real world and laboratories are needed. One of the collaborations is to build open source software based on machine translation.
The second speaker was Prof. Dr. Naomie Salim from the University of Technology Malaysia presented data mining methods to support the design and development of drugs with the help of computers.
The third speaker, Dr. Eng. Khoirul Anwar delivered the topic entitled Challenges on 5G Massive Internet of Things: Behavior Analysis from Graph and inspired by the latest developments in coding theory, Dr. Eng. Khoirul Anwar said about a method to solve multiple access problems involving IoT devices in quantities that cannot be solved by the current technology. Furthermore, Dr. Eng. Khoirul Anwar also reviewed some basic coding schemes that can be used to help massive wireless access in the future.
The next three speakers spoke together about data science, with the topic: “Multi-Class Learning Strategies for Large-Scale Classifications,” “Complex Models, Sequential Immigrants, Big Data Generation, Large Sparse Simulation and High-performance Computing Platforms for 4iR Applications” and “Text Analysis for the Qur’an to Help Us Understand It Better.”
Also, there are presentations of research papers presented in parallel sessions. Paper submitted to ICoDIS reached 86 papers. And only 59 papers were accepted, meaning the acceptance rate was 68%.
The affiliated speakers are from 7 countries, namely: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, India, England, Japan, and France.
