School of Computing Provides Video Editing Workshop for Youth Organization of Desa Cipagalo
The School of Computing, Telkom University, in collaboration with Multimedia Laboratory of School of Computing, Telkom University, has successfully carried out a community service activity on April 2019. This community service entitled “Video Editing Workshop for Youth Organization of Desa Cipagalo” was held twice on April 19 and April 28, 2019.
The Youth Organization (Bahasa Indonesia: Karang Taruna) is an organization within the community that focuses on the youth development in a village (Desa). This organization is intended to improve the social welfare of the young people as well as the community that relates to them. The Youth Organization also aims to tackle various social welfare problems – by means of preventive, rehabilitative, or developmental activities.
The objective of this workshop is to introduce video editing related skills to the youth of Desa Cipagalo, a village located about 2 km northwest of Telkom University campus. Many young generations in Desa Cipagalo intended to establish an event organizer for fostering and managing the youth potential to overcome social welfare problems. Video editing skills is an essential expertise required for establishing such a decent event organizer. Therefore, a workshop in video editing by School of Computing Telkom University is beneficial for accelerating the information and communication technology (ICT) literacy of the young people of Desa Cipagalo.
This workshop was organized by team of lecturers consisting of Kurniawan Nur Ramadhani, Dr. Suyanto, and Muhammad Arzaki. The event was conducted at Multimedia Laboratory and supported by two laboratory assistants. The workshop was divided into two days, April 19 and April 28, 2019. On the first day, the participants were introduced to the basic video editing technique using Adobe Premiere and basic animation creation using Adobe AfterEffect. The second day of the workshop introduced the utilization of Adobe AfterEffect for creating visual effects.
The effectiveness and successfulness of this workshop was measured using a pre-test and a post-test. The post-test results demonstrated significant improvement in at least four aspects in video editing. Hence, the workshop gained a positive feedback from the participants. In addition, as an improvement of this workshop, the Youth Organization also suggested the committee to perform future workshop which uses a more advanced application.
