Latex Training for School of Computing Lecturers

Bandung, SOC – For those of you who are teachers, surely you are no stranger to LaTeX. Latex is usually used to write journals or structured scientific research results. But for some of you who may still be confused about Latex, what exactly is Latex?

Latex is a word processor similar to Microsoft Word. LaTeX is more suitable for making documents that are long and structured. LaTeX allows writers/users to do type setting and print their work in the best type typography. Therefore LaTeX is most widely used by mathematicians, scientists, engineers, academics, and other professionals.

Some advantages of using LaTeX compared to other word processor :

  1. It has a structured document format that makes documents look very professional and perfect.
  2. All types of mathematical formulas can be written easily. The program can automatically create an image list, table list, bibliography, footnote, and even a table of contents.
  3. LaTeX trains and forces users to create documents with excellent and correct structure, so there is no confusion in writing.

But of the many advantages there is a lack of Latex, namely:

  1. It is tough to write unstructured documents.
  2. Requires human intelligence.
  3. The use is complicated and not user-friendly, so you must learn to use it.

Given the importance of the usefulness of the Latex, then on Monday (08/18/2014) at 09.00 in the morning at the School of Computing Meeting Room D Building, 1st Floor was held a Latex Workshop. The event was initiated by one of the Faculty of Informatics lecturers, Mr. Moch. Arif Bijakasana received a very good appreciation. But because of the limitations of the participants, only around 20 lecturers were able to attend the workshop.

The first Latex workshop was held by Mr. Bayu Erfianto, one of the School of Computing lecturers as a material presenter. “Latex is very useful for lecturers, to be able to write a journal or scientific results of their research,” Bayu said. “I hope more and more lecturers can use LaTeX,” continued Bayu.
