The School of Computing began with a Bachelor of Informatics Engineering program under the College of Technology Telkom (STT Telkom) which was established in 1992. The Informatics Department changed to the Faculty of Informatics when STT Telkom changed to the Telkom Institute of Technology (IT Telkom) in 2007. Telkom University was established in 2013 with the School of Computing as one of the Faculties in it. The School of Computing consists of three majors, namely Bachelor of Informatics Engineering, Bachelor of Computational Science and Master of Informatics Engineering. The combination of the three majors is a challenge in terms of integrating management and cultural equality systems. Besides the problems mentioned above, the three majors have several similarities and advantages, which are joint capital to be integrated into the development materials of the School of Computing.

The development of the School of Computing is part of improving the quality of national education which is one of the efforts to support the achievement of the 2011-2025 Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development in creating generations of people who have competencies to compete with other nations as well as supporting the Telkom University’s Strategic Plan to achieve its Vision to become a world-class university that plays an active role in the development of information technology-based science and art with four stages: governance excellence, academic management excellence, academic resources excellence, and academic quality excellence.

The School of Computing is determined to become a world-class faculty in the field of computing in 2018. The School of Computing means the definition of computing refers to Computer Science Curricula 2013, a broad-scope field of science that uses information technology and is connected to many disciplines. There are five knowledge areas covered in computing, namely Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Systems, and Information Technology.

The School of Computing is one of seven Faculties within the Telkom University environment with a scientific focus in the field of Informatics / Computing which is a back-bone for the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Following the development of the telecommunications sector which is the central core for Telkom University, where the convergence between telecommunications technology and ICT, in the end, all forms of information sent (data, voice, television broadcasts, radio) will be in the form of Digital and IP-based. The growth of Internet users and mobile subscribers is an indication that the ICT field will become a sunrise in the era of globalization.

The rapid and massive development of ICT encouraged the School of Computing to move quickly (run and jump) to take opportunities and play an active role in realizing the vision of Telkom University, namely becoming a world-class university that plays an active role in the development of information technology-based science and art. Therefore a Faculty Strategic Plan is needed that is aligned and synergistic with the University’s Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan is prepared by considering all aspects of stakeholders, analyzing strengths, shortcomings, opportunities, and challenges, developing the stages and sustainable strategic objectives.

The School of Computing established 5 stages in the 2014-2018 Strategic Plan, which included: governance excellence, academic excellence, research excellence, global networking, and global recognition. Each stage will be based on Telkom University’s values, namely Professionalism, Recognition of achievement, Integrity, Mutual respect, Entrepreneurship (PRIME) to guarantee a solid foundation in realizing the vision of the School of Computing in 2018.
