Computational Sciences Study Program Must Have Special Colors

Bandung, SOC – The Computational Sciences Major is one of the new study programs at Telkom University. The Computational Science Major was established early in 2009 under the Faculty of Science (since Telkom Institute of Technology) precisely on January 21, 2009. In connection with the transformation that took place from the Telkom Institute of Technology to Telkom University in April 2014, the Computational Science Major is currently in under the School of Computing.

To further develop the Computational Science major in the future, the School of Computing invited one of the resource persons who had been involved in the world of education, especially the Computational Sciences major, Prof. Edy Tri Baskoro. “He is one of the initiators of the Computational Science major at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), said Dr. Deni, head of the Bachelor of Computational Sciences Tel-U. “He also served as the coordinator of the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP), which certainly has a good reputation in the world of national and international computing”, he continued.

Prof. Edy was invited to review the Computing Science study program at Telkom University so that in the future the Major of Computational Science could achieve a 2018 Widest Important Goal (WIG), namely: obtaining a standard A accreditation National Accreditation Agency – Higher Education, having a center for computational studies finance. That is supported by large-scale computing infrastructure and has human resources and support facilities for high-performance computing needs that can compete at the national level.

To be able to achieve these goals, a Strategic Plan for Computational Science Major Development Period 2014-2018 has been made. The Strategic Plan contains: improving the academic quality of students; improving the quality and quantity of lecturers; development of standardized and up-to-date media, content and delivery teaching; produce quality graduates, competitive at national and international levels, wise about the environment, and care about the problems of mankind; and develop a research culture that is cross-group expertise, as well as the development of facilities and infrastructure to support research.

The Computational Science Major has a potential prospect going forward because the Computational Sciences major is a scientific field with an extensive focus of study, ranging from science, engineering to social, said Prof. Edy. Bachelor of Computational Sciences focuses on studies on computational mathematics, computational experiments, and parallel computing. “But despite having a vast field of study, as a Computational Sciences study program, it must have the smallest possible slice with informatics so that the color/characteristic of the Computational Sciences study program remains visible,” he concluded.
