Training on the Use of LMS in Online Learning at SMPN 57 Surabaya
SMPN 57 Surabaya is a junior high school in the city of Surabaya. This State High School is located on Jl. Siwalankerto Permai, Wonocolo District, Siwalankerto, Kec. Wonocolo, Surabaya. Since March 14, 2020, SMPN 57 Surabaya has implemented online distance learning until early 2021. Starting in early 2021, the school has implemented face-to-face schools until 9.00 WIB. One of the obstacles that teachers face is the limited number of devices that schools have for conducting online exams, so the features cannot be utilized optimally. Therefore, KK Software Engineering (KKSE) tries to offer a solution to provide online learning media in the form of a Learning Management System (LMS) and provide training on the use of LMS for online learning at SMPN 57 Surabaya.
The team of lecturers from the Software Engineering Expertise Group (KK SE), Faculty of Informatics saw this as an opportunity to be able to carry out community service programs for SMPN 57 Surabaya. The Lecturer Team of the Software Engineering Expertise Group consisting of Dawam Dwi Jatmiko Suwawi and Sri Widowati then tried to develop a training curriculum in the form of LMS monitoring in online learning at SMPN 57 Surabaya. The Community Service (Abdimas) also involves students who are taking Informatics for the Community Course, Undergraduate Informatics Study Program. The student team consisted of Moch Hanafi Sony S, Mega Vebika Shyahrin, and Farah Az Zahra. Also present to give a speech, Mrs. Chairperson of KK SE, Dr. Kusuma Ayu Laksitowening and also an expert on Technology Enhanced Learning, Mrs. Dr.
The training will be held online via the Zoom application on November 26, 2021, according to the time available from the school. The materials provided include: a demo of the Moodle LMS application, optimizing online learning in the form of creative ideas to liven up discussion forums, Inspiration to revive students’ interest in writing on Blogs, digital portfolios, or websites, quizzes using interactive applications (Kahoot); introduction of Moodle as an online learning platform with further explanation of course administration, Quiz, assignment, and grading features.
The implementation of this community service program was considered very positive by the training participants. Evidenced by the results of the questionnaire which stated that 90% of respondents agreed that the implementation of this training was in accordance with the needs of teachers at SMPN 57 Surabaya. In addition, the evaluation through the questionnaire also stated that according to 93% of respondents the implementation of Abdimas was satisfactory, and 89% of respondents hoped that there would be a continuation of the Abdimas activities at SMPN 57 Surabaya.
