Profile of the Multimedia Intelligence Computing Research Group

Intelligence, Computing, and Multimedia (ICM) is one of the Research Groups in the Faculty of Informatics, IT Telkom. As one of the Research Groups, ICM studies sciences that are closely related to computer science. This science includes the basics of the theory of information and computing, and its implementation on computer systems. In computer science algorithms are also studied, namely processes that describe and transform: theory, analysis, design, efficiency, implementation, and application. Computer Science Accreditation Board (CSAB) which is a representative of the Computing Machinery Association (ACM), the Institute of Electronic and Electronics Engineers Computer Society (IEEE) and the Association for Information Systems (AIS), identified four areas as the focus of computer science. CSAB also identifies fields such as software engineering, artificial intelligence, computer graphics as crucial areas of computer science.

Teaching Department

Many materials are studied in this research group. Some of the material includes the following material:

Laboratory

Several laboratories were established to support research and teaching activities in the Intelligence, Computing, and Multimedia Research Group. The laboratories include the Open Source Programming Laboratory, Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Multimedia Laboratory, and Formal Method Laboratory. Each laboratory has different research topics which are supported by several study groups. Study groups are study groups that specialize in particular issues related to specific laboratory material.

Study Group

Several study groups in the Intelligence, Computing, and Multimedia Research Group laboratories are:

  1. Artificial Intelligence laboratories include study groups of Expert Systems, Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, Fuzzy Logic, Searching and Planning, Evolutionary Algorithm, and Soft Computing. The following is an explanation of the study group.
    • Expert System is a computer program that contains knowledge from one or more human experts regarding a specific field. This system utilizes reasoning capabilities to reach a conclusion.
    • Artificial Neural Network Is a network of a group of small processing units that are modeled based on human neural networks. The artificial neural network is an adaptive system that can change its structure to solve problems based on external, internal information and patterns in the data.
    • Genetic Algorithm Is one class of evolutionary algorithms. Genetic algorithms are search techniques in computer science to find solutions to optimization and search problems.
    • Fuzzy Logic Is an inference system that uses the concept of a fuzzy set, which is a problem not represented in 0 and 1, but a range [0,1]. This system also adopts human instincts in solving problems.
    • Searching and Planning Is a method of solving problems in general. When there are search problems that are formulated, set of conditions, a set of operators, an initial state, and an objective criterion, then the problem can be solved by a search technique.
    • Evolutionary Algorithm is an optimization technique that is inspired by evolutionary systems in the real world, namely reproduction, mutation, recombination, and parent selection.
    • Soft Computing Is a problem-solving method that can process data that is uncertain, impressive, and can be implemented at a low cost. Some methods included in the soft computing category are fuzzy logic, artificial neural networks, probabilistic reasoning, and others.
  2. Multimedia laboratories include study group photography, vector, 3D modeling, animation, and video making. The following is an explanation of the study group.
    • Photography Discusses techniques or procedures for taking pictures through a digital camera, editing and retouching the image so that it fits your needs.
    • Vector Discusses various types of graphics processing software that are still within the boundaries of two-dimensional domains.
    • 3D modeling Discuss or learn two-dimensional tools used in building game characters, environment games, and others.
    • Animation Discusses the making of animations.
    • Video Making Learn about the techniques of making and editing videos.
  3. Open Source Programming Laboratories include group studies on Java Standard Edition, Java Enterprise Edition, and Java Mobile Edition. The following is an explanation of the study group.
    • Java Standard Edition (J2SE) Learn about the development of object-oriented applications on desktop and client/server.
    • Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE) Studying the development of object-oriented applications on the web and client/server, for example, e-business applications, e-commerce, and web-based applications.
    • Java Mobile Edition (J2ME) Learn about the development of object-oriented applications that can be implemented on all platforms, such as pagers, smart cards, cell phones, PDA handhelds, and set-top boxes.
    • Formal Method Laboratory Among other things is a formal study group method, namely the technique of specification, development, and verification of software and hardware systems based on mathematical concepts.

Research RoadMap

  1. Intelligence Positioning yourself in basic research in the form of analysis and development of Algorithms. Scope of Research for 2011 focused on solving problems in the internal environment of the Institution in the form of Development of: PLAGIAT Detection Techniques and Scheduling Mechanisms
  2. Computing As a new “born” field, Computing focuses on:
    • Mobile Computation : Resource Optimization
    • Intelegent Computation : Algorithm Optimization
    • Special computational studies : Cryptograhpy, Steganography, WaterMarking
    • Modelling : Formal Method
  3. Multimedia: Multimedia activities that have been running so far related to “production” and the use of technology. For 2011, it will begin to be directed to produce Multimedia Technology Training Modules. For research:
    • Digital Signal Processing (Image, Voice, Video)
    • Game Development
